Historic – World War 1 Begins

This war is also known as the First World War or the Great War. It was a global war originating in Europe that began on July 28th,1914, and lasted until November 11th,1918. The assignation of Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife by a Serbian nationalist is what provoked this war.  Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, which was the formal beginning of the war.
